The Future of The Obama Web Site

The biggest fly in the vetting of Bill Clinton is probably the Frank Guistra connection. My guess is that it will not result in a game changing event. I think if Hillary was disqualified for Secretary of State, she would have been disqualified during the primary season. Here is a long and pretty thorough look at this that I published some time ago. The Future of The Obama Web Site

Last night I posted a note on the Obama Blog expressing concern about the future of the Obama Web Site. How will we, in the future, feel we have a voice in the change that is only now beginning?

The answer seems to be that there will continue to be an independent, two way street for communication between "us" and the Obama folk. And that the site could use a bit of tweaking to facilitate the speed of posting, so that there can be dialogue among users.

This will be an ongoing concern.

I have edited down the relevant parts of the discussion below:

What is the future of this site and the movement that built up around it?

My impression is that numbers have dropped off considerably, but I do not believe it can all be attributed to a drop in interest.

I think the main reason is a possible confusion.

Change.gov, while it does offer a chance to comment and to apply for jobs, is not a two way site such as this is.

Will that site eventually have a blog such as this, which is a genuine two way street? I tend to doubt it.

We had some note a while back suggesting that this site would have a continuing life. That is what I hope happens.

There will be one of more official sites relating to the President-Elect, then to the new President.

But the most important thing, I feel, is to continue to have a vital gathering place for the movement that has built up around Barack's candidacy and election. I would say now more than ever, because it is hard to gather people back after they have dispersed.

Ideally there might be some official indication that an Obama Movement will continue made up of people who wish to be actively supportive.

The other element in all this is the DNC. I suppose if the DNC becomes in essence the province of the core of the Obama political operation, this site might either end or move under that umbrella.

I guess I am interested in a bit more clarity on all this. Best, S

S.,

HQ did say this site is staying right where it is. NO WORRIES.

Your noticing that ObamaCANS have posted less, could be for a few reasons,

First, people actually had to go back to their pre-campaign life, which had been significantly neglected.

Second, there have been a significant loss of [blog postings] per day. If there is only one or two, it clogs up the traffic and makes the whole site run so slow that many may have found it difficult to post or read and post on others.

For me, I have had to reboot my computer many times because of this.

Third, I was on here the other night when the site was hijacked by trolls and made it a horrible place to be.

I reminded everyone here to do the "report and ignore" but a couple of our people continued to post and putting fuel to the fire.

However, it was only two, out of thousands, but some I noticed, especially those abroad were put off by the whole thing so we may have lost some.

Those are my observations. I suspect things will pick up as announcements and Jan. 20th gets closer.

A lot of us are still here, but it is harder to post. ...

My understanding is from reading one of the blogs a few days back that they plan to keep this blog open and much the same as it is now....

I SURE hope they re-establish the old way that posts were posted instantly, as I get too ... short-spanned to have an actual interaction with the delayed posts.

I read somewhere that Change.gov will never include 2-way communication because that is not permitted on a .gov site.

hmm . . . I hadn't thought of that, but it does make sense.

Could you imagine if all the .gov sites had 2 way communication -- it would be a nightmare. So I imagine it will be we give input, they review it, they may do something about it or not, but most of all they will keep us updated on everything that is going on.

It is a way to stay informed, and to have transparency in the government that over the last god knows how many years has been for the most part secret.

Obama means it when he says WE he really wants us to participate in our civic duty, because our government belongs to us, we are suppose to be the ones who have the biggest say, through all who represent us.

This may be why they will continue this site so that we can still meet together for a common purpose, YES WE STILL CAN, be involved!~!!

... I'll join in being patient. We should remember that there were millions who helped one way or another and that action needs to also be two way. ... We signed on for that and Barack said the election was not the change though thange had come to America. I don't want to see the change be any less exciting or involving as the days unfold.
