However, we may need a huge landslide just to combat the voter suppression activities of GOP Secretaries of State following in the crooked footsteps of their Florida exemplar of 2000. SOURCE
Gallup squiggles at the base of this page are with us. Barack up, McCain down and an eleven digit chasm. It looks as though the populace is holding to its inclinations and adding a bit to the Barack-inclined.
Barack in Henderson, NV, this AM.Don't believe for a second this election is over. Don't think for a minute that power concedes. We have to work like our future depends on it in these last few days, because it does.
But I know this, Nevada, the time for change has come. We have a righteous wind at our back.
And if in these last few days, you will knock on some doors for me, and make some calls for me, and go to barackobama.com and find out where to vote – and remember, you can vote early here in Nevada. If you will stand with me, and fight by my side, and cast your ballot for me, then I promise you this – we will not just win Nevada, we will not just win this election, but together, we will change this country and we will change the world. GOTV = Get Out The Vote
It's The Turnout, Stupid SOURCE
Yes, it is perhaps the oldest cliche in politics to say that everything is riding on turnout. But take a look at the data for Georgia and Missouri in the latest TIME/CNN poll. In both states, McCain holds a narrow lead among "likely" voters (those who traditionally vote), but Obama leads among registered (the kind of result you get if turnout is huge).

In effect, John McCain 2008 has become, tactically, a carbon copy of John Kerry in 2004, dumping widely disproportionate resources into Ohio and Florida - over 5,000 gross TV ratings points here in the Tampa market alone this week - while the Democrats' fifty-state strategy is laying upon him the political death of a thousand cuts elsewhere. He's now spending 42 percent of his ad dollars on saving eight percent of the Electoral College vote in two states won by George Bush. That indicates a huge worry that even Florida and Ohio could slip out of his grasp.
From Alternet: Beyond Parachute Politics SOURCE
History has taught us that voter registration drives are most effective when they are part of a larger strategy to build the political power of local communities. Moving away from short-term political gain means that organizations that register voters would place more emphasis on year-round volunteer civic engagement and participation, much like the efforts that became the hallmark of the civil rights movement.
Ohio, as always SOURCE
The Republican party in the state has been pummeled by scandal over the past four years and Democrats have won all the big races there recently. Obama lost to Hillary Clinton in the state's primary partly because of his failure to win over blue-collar voters. The Democrat also faces questions about his commitment to reform free trade agreements like NAFTA, which many Ohioans believe has hurt their economy. It all adds up to the possibility of another Election Night squeaker.
